Alpine Loop Status
CLOSED
Engineer and Cinnamon passes are officially closed for the season as of 10/29/26 due to deep snow in the high country. Anyone traveling on back country roads, including CR 20 or CR 30, for recreation or hunting should avoid driving through snow. STOP and turn around if you encounter snow on the road. Snow depth is deceiving and a vehicle can get stuck in what looks like little snow.
About the Loop
The Alpine Loop Backcountry Byway is a network of four-wheel drive roads, open seasonally that connect Lake City, Ouray, and Silverton. It traverses passes up to 12,800 feet while showcasing old mines, ghost towns, natural wonders, beautiful wildflowers, and abundant wildlife.
